Art Therapy
at Make
Creative Studio
Make seeks to provide a place where people in recovery from addiction, trauma, and loss can withdraw from the pressures of their journey and take a moment to create using the resources of the studio. We do this through Art & Recovery sessions in partnership with Into The Neighborhood, the McShin Foundation, and Journey House; therapeutic art classes for biological mothers of children in foster care with Patty’s Hope, and special private classes for refugees. Elizabeth King, Art Therapist, ATR-BC, LPC
We’re grateful to have licensed art therapist Elizabeth King on our team. With over 15 years of experience as a professional counselor and board-certified art therapist, Elizabeth brings deep care and creativity to her work. She offers thoughtful support to those navigating depression, anxiety, life transitions, addiction, and medical challenges—all through the healing power of art.
Sketchbooks

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve received a generous donation from Mechanicsville Christian Center (MCC).
Thanks to their kindness, every Wednesday evening attendee will receive their very own sketchbook!

More About Art Therapy at Make Creative Studio
Art and Recovery Nights in partnership with Into the Neighborhood find 12-15 women breaking bread together and creating art geared towards their recovery with Art Therapist Elizabeth King, ATR-BC, LPC. If you are interested in having your Recovery Group participate in an Art and Recovery Night, please contact Angie Cooke, Director, at angie@makestudiorva.com .
Make Creative Studio also works weekly on Mondays at 9:30 and 11 AM with the McShin Foundation, and at 1 PM on Mondays with the Journey House Foundation in addition to their Wednesday night visits. Women’s and men’s groups both visit the studio through these outreaches. Participants join together in creating uplifting and encouraging art projects under the leadership of our Art Therapist, Elizabeth King. Each gathering is geared specifically toward recovery and focuses on providing time together to share, contemplate and create in a therapeutic atmosphere. The studio provides all materials for each project made and seeks to use recycled and donated materials whenever possible. If you are interested in volunteering during these times, scroll down.
